Get to know me

I'm Ashika. A lifelong in-betweener. Born in the UK, raised across the UAE and the US by Indian parents, I never fully belonged to one place. I still live between cultures, and maybe that's why I've always paid such close attention to people, and to the stories they carry. Life happens in the details, and stories happen somewhere between the lines.

I trained in documentary filmmaking at OTOXO Productions in Barcelona, on a one-month intensive where I co-directed three short documentaries: Beneath the Dust, Nūn, and The Blue That Holds Us. Meeting those people, and telling their stories, is why I've gone back to OTOXO for the year-long program.

Before filmmaking, I spent fifteen years in operations in pharmaceutical drug development, a career built on precision, complex moving parts, and listening carefully in high-stakes rooms. It turns out those are filmmaking skills too, and it's the reason a shoot with me runs on time.

Alongside the documentary work, I make brand films and marketing content for business owners, startups, and product brands, service providers, athletes, wellness, travel and hospitality. I also work with marketing teams and agencies on a freelance basis, taking on creative direction, shoot planning, camera, and post.

Barcelona has been home for my family and me since 2023. We spend our weekends on the beaches in our backyard, and we travel as often as we can for the food, the culture, and the memories.

Four children with curly hair smiling and hugging each other under a playground structure with wooden and red metal parts, at a park on a sunny day.
A man and two children posing outdoors in front of a lighthouse, with three flagpoles and a parked car in the background.
A happy man and woman outdoors in a park with trees and blue sky, hugging each other and smiling at the camera.
A couple in traditional Indian wedding attire smiling and holding drinks, decorated with yellow and red flower garlands.
